    Big Bowls Triathlon Team
EC, PR, and me at Ironman USA 2000
In the fall of 1999 (when I was considering doing my first Ironman in 2000), I decided to join a mailing list of Ironman triathletes (the Ironman Florda mailing list) just to see what type of training was necessary to finish one of these races. I had done three short-course triathlons and the Marine Corps Marathon in the summer and fall of 1999, and was ready to take the next step.

These people were crazy. They trained a stupid amount of hours, seemed to think only about triathon, and used sayings like "Yo!" and "Rock On!" literally every sentence. Maybe 2 weeks after joining the list, a faction of the group decided to start their own mailing list and call themselves the Big Bowls Triathlon Team (BBTT). I followed them and haven't looked back.

Who can join? Anybody. If you're a triathlete and interested in a sort of wacky but supportive group of people, I'd encourage you to join. The only prerequisite for joining is sending a Top 10 list to the mailing list ... i.e. the top 10 cool or funny experiences you have had either during or training for a triathlon. You can find my top ten list here. Looking back at it now it is sort of dated and corny, but there you have it.

When you submit a top 10 list, the coolest member of the BBTT - EC (aka Eric Cagnina), will dutifully appoint you with a team nickname. Everybody on the team has a nickname. Mine is  jukebox" because I "keep on spinning those personal records". He he. Oh, and I am also the webmaster of the bigbowls.com website.

    Rock on!
